Retired from the software consulting world, Ted Waltman is an enthusiastic backcountry pilot and aircraft builder. As a builder, Ted has numerous planes to his credit, including several Murphy Moose and his current Backcountry Super Cub
Also an avid mountaineer, climber, and general adventurer, Ted stays active. For instance, along with his best friend Mike Danaher, Ted has two ascents of Denali 20,300′ in Alaska, including the first alpine ascent of the East Buttress and first East-to-West traverse.
Flying trips to Alaska are amongst Ted’s favorite vacations. For instance, he has 10 trips North in the last 11 years.
Ted also few Part 135 charter and flight-see operations for Wrangell Mountain Air (link) out of McCarthy for the summer of 2019. More recently in 2024, Ted flew Part 91 operations August – September for Dierick’s Tsiu River Lodge (link) ferrying customers, food, fuel and all manner of supplies out of Yakutat up the coast about 145nm to the Tsiu-River area.
